The Cuyuna Country Heritage Preservation Society has merged with the Soo Line Depot Museum to become the . . .
         Cuyuna Iron Range       Heritage Network!

Exciting news to report!
Cuyuna Country Heritage Preservation Society has completed the merger with the Soo Line Depot Museum, and together they have become:

Cuyuna Iron Range Heritage Network!

With this new merger, the Soo Line Depot Museum will be continuously refined and displays will be changed regularly to offer a variety of interesting and educational experiences for the entire family! A new museum park recently named, the Gene & Joan Foote Soo Line Depot Museum Park, will offer many new displays and interactive adventures for kids, picnic tables, and an interpretive walking path!

Stop in soon to visit the newest addition to the park . . . a remarkable creation by local artist, Jeff Kreitz. Jeff was commissioned to make this Soo Line Railroad Bench by the children of Dick & Kaye Gillman in memory of their father, who was a key member and past president of the Cuyuna Country Heritage Society, and a long-time railroad man. Richard Gillman died on July 1, 2008, and all will miss his good humor and hard work for this Society.

CUYUNA COUNTRY!

Why not read all about the 2007 celebration of the first manned space flight!

A manned capsule dangling from a 280-foot balloon as it lifed off from the Portsmouth Mine pit in Crosby on August 19, 1957, launched the space age!
The launch, forerunner of today's space program, was one of several designed to study the effect of high altitudes on humans. The program was named, "Man High."
The man who was inside the capsule when it lifted from the pit was Dr. David Simons, a physician who set a new record for prolonged high-altitude flight, soaring to 102,000 feet.

Cuyuna Country Heritage Society held a major celebration of this historic event. The 50-year anniversary was observed August 17th-19th in 2007 and was coordinated by Jim Nelson of the CCHPS Governing Board.
